Overview

This project involved designing and building a WordPress powered microsite for NHS Wirral, through Caramba Marketing, to provide information, guidance and answers to questions on breastfeeding.

Using the existing offline branding and marketing materials, the web site design focused on the primary call to actions established with the client:

  1. Clear, easy to find information on breastfeeding,
  2. Real life diaries, covering a variety of questions,
  3. Informative videos
  4. Breastfeeding friendly locations
  5. Answers to frequently asked questions

With the above in mind, the site was designed to provide quick and easy access to key information.  Due to the volume of information, the primary menu was configured to be editable by the client, and contain child menu elements to allow information to be grouped into appropriate categories.

WordPress was chosen for this project, so the client could easily edit the existing pages and images, as well as keep the news section of the site updated.

A bespoke plugin was created to allow additional functionality for the Locations section of the web site; this allowed the client to enter addresses of breastfeeding-friendly locations in the local areas, with the plugin integrating with the Google Maps API to plot the appropriate addresses on a map.

As with all work, the design was coded in XHTML and CSS, using progressive enhancements in CSS and Javascript for newer web browsers, whilst ensuring legacy web browsers could still browse and view the web site’s information.
